I am back with Blog 2 and would like to share some information with you about Zero VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) paint and why you should use it but before I do that lets go back in time.

I’m sure you all know paint has come a long way. I don’t know what age group is reading this but being the big 51 I remember when people used oil paint. This was one of the unhealthiest paints to work with. It had a very strong odour which caused people to have headaches, asthma etc., you had to wait 24hrs for it to dry to do the second coat and if you got it on your hands or cleaned the brushes you had to use turpentine or paint thinner which I’m sure was not the healthiest. The best time to use it was when the weather was nice and you could open the windows or when you used it on the exteriors. The only good thing about it was that it was durable and washable. Due to the harmful VOC solvents that are released into the air while painting interiors, oil paints are obsolete.

Latex paint which is water soluble came next and is still going strong. It still has an odour but nothing compared to the oil paint, after two hours you can do the second coat and if you get it on your hands or want to clean the brushes you just have to use soap and water. It has also come a long way when it comes to durability and washing ability, because at one time you couldn’t get the marks off the walls when you washed it and the paint would come off on the cloth. When you want to use Latex paint and you are not sure if it is oil paint you just have to take a cotton ball and coat it with nail polish remover, if nothing comes off it is oil paint and if colour does come off it is latex paint. There is now Multi-Purpose primers that can be used on top of oil paint and it won’t peel like it used to, you just have to make sure you wash the surface and sand it down to make it rough so the primer adheres to it. Latex paint contains 50g or less VOC content.

As for the Zero VOC paints there are many benefits to it. So many kids today have asthma and allergies and according to scientific studies children who sleep in bedrooms with high VOC’s are more likely to get asthma and allergies but this paint is asthma and allergy friendly. There are people who can’t stand the harsh fumes of paint and even have to leave the house while people are painting but with the Zero VOC paint it has a low odour and if you open the windows it will give you double the ventilation. The Zero VOC paint is also durable, washable, comes in a variety of colours and finishes and is Greenguard Certified.

Since we want a Healthier You, we want to go green and turn your house into a Healthier Home by using Zero VOC paint.

There are many paint companies that have Zero VOC paints but below I show examples of Sherwin Williams.
