It’s the end of another year, a year full of hard work, research, and amazing clients who always amaze me with their stories and personal journeys towards healing. I’ve come to realize that Home Healing Hues is in need of its very own ‘Do Over,’ expanding services and company objectives to better reflect what I do, and why my decorating services are different.
I started Home Healing Hues after my best friend was diagnosed with breast cancer. Being with her on this journey made me realize the power of colour and inspired me to help other cancer patients with their recovery process by creating Healing Spaces that supports their healing journey. However, I’ve come to realize that there are so many other people who would benefit from my services. Someone who has suffered a personal loss, and is in turn struggling with hoarding habits. Someone who has commuted through GTA traffic all their career who comes home feeling drained, with a tired home full of stuff that no longer reflects who they are. Someone who suffered a divorce and needs to reconnect with the person who exists beyond that relationship. These are just a few reasons why I believe we all need healing in our lives.
That being said I have also come to the conclusion that people need to be in the right mindset in order to be ready for my services. I can’t have a client ask me to come over and help choose healing hues only to walk into that room and find it full of clutter- the benefits of those hues would be canceled out by all that lingering bad energy! The first thing to do is to de-clutter their lives- the first step in a process to help guide them in creating their Healing Space. What helps me with the design process is when a client writes about their story and why they want that Healing Space. I then do research if need be so I can help them overcome their personal challenges and improve their Well-Being. The initial phone interview and the following conversations whether through e-mail or in person are so helpful in getting a sense of the emotional needs behind each future design. Depending on the client I might recommend reiki, meditation, journaling… encouraging them to take time each day for emotional healing.
You could say I expect my clients to do work too! Working with them through the process of de-cluttering, letting go of the physical clutter and the mental attachment to those things; taking time to choose their healing colours for the space and understand why they might be attracted to sky blue (for example); taking time to separate their needs from their wants to ultimately finish with a designed space that is used and loved to its full potential, and also leave them outfitted with a new set of mental tools to meet any future challenges life brings.
And so, after much reflection I have decided to call myself ‘The Wellness Decorator’, with the objective of improving both the physical, mental and emotional design needs of my clients.
I’m also pleased to announce I am now educated in ASD and will create Autism-friendly design ideas and am very excited to begin those projects in the coming year!
The end of a year, the beginning of something new. I would like to wish you and your loved ones a healthy and joyous New Year. Merry Christmas!!
