This September Home Healing Hues is happy to be celebrating its first year anniversary. I can’t believe it’s already been a year. Where has the time gone? Here is a summary of what I’ve done the past year: networking, decorating, speaking engagements, home shows, charity work (plus working for Decorview Canada selling Hunter Douglas blinds)… let me tell you, the life of an Entrepreneur never stops being busy but it has been an incredible journey and I wouldn’t change a thing.
There have been a lot of changes within this first year of Home Healing Hues being in business. Because it was inspired by my best friend who had breast cancer I dedicated my business to creating healing spaces for those with cancer using colours and design that resonates with their soul. Through networking and listening to people’s stories I realized we all need healing in our lives whether going through a divorce, loss, are a single mom, are commuting every day, work from home, so on and so on. It’s not just about colour and design, it’s about me knowing your story, doing research and tapping into my intuition so I can help you emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually in any way I can to improve your lives.
I started my year of business off by being featured in an article in the Costco magazine and have been in variety of magazines and newspaper articles since. Thanks to my chance meeting of Brian Lattanville of Healthy Home Makeovers by looking at the 640 Toronto website we have done multiple Home shows together and he has had me on 640 Toronto AM with him. I have slowly been adding public speaking events to my repertoire as well. I would rather be doing one-on-one consultations any day but we all need to move forward and get out of our comfort zone. I will keep doing speaking events because practice makes perfect.
This company was founded on the principle of helping improve lives, and I’ve been making an effort to donate my time and talent as much as I can back to my community. Some of it has been pure fun, like the ‘Cup for the Cure’ event last October in support of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Let me tell you, it hasn’t all been days of tea cups and fascinators! At the Habitat for Humanity ‘Women in Power’ build in June I had the very un-glamourous job of putting in posts for a fence. However, the people on our build team were so much fun. I can’t wait for next year.
I have approached the Hospice Campaign Manager of Durham Region Hospice and volunteered my design services for their current project. They are still working on raising funds for building two locations in Clarington and Whitby. I look forward to seeing where that project leads.
Has it been worth it? Definitely! I’m proud of all I’ve accomplished and will be forever grateful for all of the people who have helped Home Healing Hues reach this point, especially the amazing group of women from Heart of Networking, HUB Inc. and other networking groups who encouraged me to take the first steps. Home Healing Hues will be undergoing a few updates in the coming months and this year’s agenda is filling in fast. It will be an amazing year and I’m looking forward to all the challenges ahead!
